Grain growers across New South Wales are invited to attend a series of Profitable grain storage solutions workshops this August, exploring how on-farm grain storage can improve profitability, grain quality and biosecurity outcomes.
Hosted by NSW Local Land Services, the workshops will bring together industry specialists to discuss practical grain storage options, grain hygiene, pest management and strategies to help maximise the value of grain after harvest.
What the workshops will cover
Chris Warrick from the GRDC Stored Grain Extension Project will cover practical and economic considerations for matching storage type to purpose and budget, silo and storage setup options, grain quality management with aeration, weevil identification, prevention and control, and ways to optimise harvest logistics and capture seasonal price premiums.
Kate Glastonbury, NSW Grains Biosecurity Officer with the Grains Farm Biosecurity Program, will present alongside Cameron Murray from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development on plant biosecurity and grain hygiene, including awareness and preparedness for exotic and endemic plant pests.
Geoff Minchin from Local Land Services will discuss drought adoption, including feeding livestock, the implications of storing low quality grain, short, medium and long-term storage options, and financial support for larger investments, including RIC loans and RAA support programs.
