Grains Biosecurity Officers from across Australia met in Canberra in May 2025 to develop state workplans with Plant Health Australia (PHA), marking the next phase of the Grains Farm Biosecurity Program (GFBP).
The program is a joint initiative of PHA and Grain Producers Australia (GPA), featuring a Grains Biosecurity Officer (GBO) in each of the five grain-growing states, supported by a national management team within PHA.
The meeting, held on 27–28 May 2025, included guest speakers from PHA’s Biosecurity Planning and Marketing and Communication teams, as well as the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) and GPA. Speakers shared insights into current biosecurity issues and the challenges ahead.
Attendees reviewed recent achievements, discussed proposed activities and reflected on past learnings. The team also scoped key outcomes for the program’s next phase to support the grains industry’s management of and preparedness for high-priority biosecurity risks. The new workplans include coordinated national activities that draw on the GBOs’ diverse skills and experience, while reinforcing the program’s consistent message and collaborative approach.
