The Grains Biosecurity Advisory Committee (GBAC) met on Tuesday 14 July, bringing together representatives from across Australia’s grains industry to discuss current biosecurity priorities and strengthen collaboration across the sector.
The July meeting provided an opportunity for members to share updates on recent biosecurity activities and emerging issues affecting the grains industry, helping identify opportunities to improve preparedness and coordination.
A key agenda item was a draft Grains Biosecurity Communication Strategy. Committee members provided feedback on the proposed approach, with discussion focused on ensuring communication is timely, consistent and relevant to grain producers and industry stakeholders before, during and after a biosecurity incident.
The strategy aims to improve how biosecurity information is shared across the grains industry, strengthen awareness of biosecurity responsibilities and support better coordination across the sector.
Established by Plant Health Australia (PHA) and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), GBAC was formed to provide strategic advice and industry guidance on implementation of priorities identified in the Biosecurity Plan for the Grains Industry. The committee includes representatives from Grain Producers Australia (GPA), GrainGrowers, Grain Trade Australia (GTA), GRDC and PHA.
Through ongoing industry engagement and advice, GBAC continues to support activities that help prepare Australia’s grains industry for future pest and disease threats.
