Triticale (x Triticosecale) is a cereal hybrid derived by crossing wheat (Triticum aestivum) with cereal rye (Secale cereale). It has high yield potential and is adapted to a wide range of soil types and environments. Globally, and in Australia, triticale is used primarily for livestock feed. Triticale is mainly grown in New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia. Tasmania also produces a small quantity each year.
