Soybean (Glycine max) was first domesticated in China more than 3,000 years ago where it was used for human consumption and as a stockfeed. Production in Australia is relatively small, comprising only a small percentage of Australia’s total oilseed production. Soybeans are mainly grown in New South Wales and Queensland with a very small amount grown in Victoria. Most of Australia’s soybean crop is used domestically for crushing, livestock and human foodstuffs. Limited quantities are exported.
