The mung bean (Vigna radiata), also known as green gram, is a tropical/sub-tropical pulse crop native to the Indo-Burma region of Asia. India, Burma, Thailand and Indonesia are the major producers of this crop. Mung beans are mostly grown for human consumption. Queensland and New South Wales are the main producers to the crop in Australia. Most of the crop produced is exported.
