Faba Beans (Vicia faba) originated in the Middle East and are now an important food crop in China and many Mediterranean and African countries. South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales are the main producers with a small industry in Western Australia and Queensland. A significant proportion of the crop is exported mostly to Middle Eastern countries including Egypt.
